Founded in 1915, Alfred Brown (Worsted Mills) Ltd has spent the last century perfecting the bulk production of worsted cloth of outstanding quality and consistency.
We weave fabrics from 100% Merino wool and wool blends. Our heritage weaves and designs work alongside contemporary fashion trends to create a classically British collection.
We are unique amongst the mills in the UK because we achieve consistent mix and match on bulk suiting orders batch to batch, which our large retail customers demand.
Our seasonal collection is available to order from 335metres. New designs are launched twice a year for spring/summer and autumn/winter.
We stock support over 200 of our classic English fabric lines, which are available to order with minimums of just 35 metres. Our stock support service provides an accessible entry point for small brands and tailors.
We manufacture a broad range of fabrics, which have been exported globally since the 1970s. From high-street retailers and corporate clients to exclusive tailoring shops, we deliver levels of excellence, quality and value which ensure lasting relationships with all our customers.
The most respected names in retail, fashion and tailoring use the Alfred Brown brand in their garments.
We are proud to have been manufacturing on the same site in the heart of Yorkshire for over 100 years.
Throughout our history, we have invested consistently in the latest weaving technology. We aim to respect the traditional craft of weaving and drive efficiencies to maintain quality and a competitive edge.
Herbert Brown started out weaving military, fire service and police uniforms. Today, our customer base is much more diverse. We still supply corporate wear and uniforms for the Household Guard, but just as retailing developed over a century, so have our product and our story.
